Broome to Katherine

We stayed another day in Broome at the Cable Beach Caravan Park, we caught up on our washing, filled our water tank and enjoyed a swim in the pool.

The following day we continued our way toward the Northern Territory. Over the next week we travelled some long distances, however the scenery was not as flat and boring as the drive up the west coast. Leaving Broome we start heading into the Kimberley’s, the mountain ranges, bush land and wildlife were all very interesting and a lot different to what we’ve seen elsewhere. Most of the camp areas are well set back off the road and are really nice. One of our more adventurous stops was at the Grotto, a natural pool in at the foot of a gorge. The climb to the bottom was via 140 odd steps down the cliff face, no safety rail, so a little daunting if you are not keen on heights.

Another really nice spot we camped was at Mary’s Pool, we drove across an old weir into a camp ground next to the river, we were told by other campers that there was a large croc down at the river, we went for a walk down the river but didn’t see it. One of the camp sites we stayed at a couple nights later, we met another family of similar age to us, they had been travelling for 14 months living out of a camper trailer. They had 2 young girls, the kids had a great time playing together.

Mmmm, maybe Jake had had enough :)

This morning we arrived in Katherine, stocked up on food and fuel before finding a place to pull up for lunch. We haven’t had phone, internet or TV since leaving Broome and don’t expect to again from here to Darwin. We will be leaving Kathrine this afternoon and should arrive in Darwin within the next few days.

More photos of this leg of the trip can be seen in the album Photos / Australia – Our Lap / Broome to Katherine

Hi Michelle,
You can not attach files or photos to Comments, or send them via the contact form. You can email them to us.
You can insert an image into your comments though! But the image must be hosted on the internet some where… it can not be upload to our site!

I have inserted this image

by writing code into the comment, the same as you would write your normal message.
to get the above image, I wrote

NOTE: the picture is called DamoPlane.jpg and it is hosted on our site, the full url for the picture is http://brakel.com.au/DamoPlane.gif
So you would write the above code but replace the url between the ” ” with the url of your image
