Darwin to Katherine
We left Darwin yesterday morning and drove back to Katherine, we stopped in a park area for lunch and then moved on to a site to rest for the night. In the NT there are a lot of scrub fires burning, it is burning off time of the year up here. After the sun went down, the smoke become very thick and uncomforable so we drove in to Katherine.
We went out to the wharf for Jaysons birthday dinner, we dined on the wharf over looking the harbour, we all had Barra, prawn, squid and chip, it was nice. Jayson got a scooter for his birthday and bought him self a new game for the DSLight.
We checked out most of Darwin and its suburbs while there, Darwin is not real big!

Katherine to Darwin
After a stop over in a road site camp not far north of Katherine, we drove into the Litchfield National Park, found a caravan park to park the bus while we drove the car to the various attraction. All the 4 wheel drive tracks were closed so we could only go to half of the locations, but they were great.

Broome to Katherine
We stayed another day in Broome at the Cable Beach Caravan Park, we caught up on our washing, filled our water tank and enjoyed a swim in the pool.

Yule River to Broome
Our next stop was at Port Hedland. Port Hedland is very much an industrial port town, the buildings and home look rundown and the town has that dirt stained look that is typical of a mining town. Certainly not he most attractive place we have visited. We stopped for the kids to have a play in the play ground and see the big ships, then of to Woollies for a few groceries before hitting the road again.

That first night we stopped in a road site rest spot, the next morning we drove to Goldwire camp area. We arrived at the camp area around lunch time, parked close to a sheltered seating area where we spent most the afternoon. There we a lot of butterflies which kept us fascinated for some time, we would hold our arm out and wait for one to land on our hand.

Exmouth to Yule River (50km Sth of Port Hedland)
We got the bus service and were back on the road by 9am, that was a funny experience in its self.
I drove into the work shop and open up the engine bay, the mechanic climbs under the bus and calls to me “were is the drain plug?”, I replied “It is a dry sump, you just need to drain the oil from the oil tank here” pointing to the oil tank. The mechanic crawls back out and I show him the oil tank and explain the system. His next question gave me a bit of a laugh, ” is the other motor in the back?” he asked, I take it he was making a joke!!!

Kalbarri to Exmouth
We spent the night in Kalbarri in a parking area right on the edge of the water, after breakfast we went for a drive in the car to check out the town. Then after a visit to the sea horse sanctuary we loaded up the car, had some lunch and hit the road again.

Geraldton to Kalbarri
Our first stop today was at Northhampton, an old heritage town with a population of 1000 or so people. The town had a nice park area and provided a dump point and water for travellers so we pulled up for the morning and did a load of washing while the kids played in the park. I filled our water tank, fit the smoke alarm and window lock I bought the other day, and also fitted better latches for the roof vent fly screen. I also fitted a door bolt to the bathroom door, when driving we often hang the washing in the bathroom and leave the window open, the air flow dries the washing quite well, but the bathroom builds up air pressure and puts a lot of weight on the door. We broke a door catch earlier in the trip doing this, so I added a door bolt to save the door latch from breaking again.

Bridgetown to Geraldton
As per last post, we left Bridgetown and headed up the coast via Perth. Bellow are a few photos Christee-Lee took while driving thought the city.

While traveling through Perth we were over taken by a Ferrari, we tried to out run it but we were a bit fat. The Ferrari’s weight advantage gave him the edge to pull away.
